Theme Background:
The Royal Australian Mint has produced 4 specially made coins for the 2011 Australasian Numismatic Dealers Association Show. This exclusive series, Capital Bridges, will depict an iconic bridge from each hosting state.
The fourth coin in the series will feature the Sydney Pyrmont Bridge. The current Pyrmont Bridge opened in 1902 and is the world’s oldest surviving electrically operated swingspan bridge, reaching over Cockle Bay in Sydney’s Darling Harbour. The bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in the 1980s and is now a pedestrian bridge. It also carries an elevated monorail which travels between Darling Harbour and the Sydney central business district.
