In 2011 the Royal Australian Mint continues its long running Kangaroo Series with this stunning representation of the allied rock-wallaby.

The allied rock-wallaby is commonly seen in north-east Queensland, on nearby Palm Island and Magnetic Island. It skilfully hops around rocky cliffs feeding on grasses, fruits, seeds and flowers. During Autumn, the wallaby sheds its dark brown fur revealing a lighter coat that provides camouflage against the grasses that sprout around its rocky home.

The allied rock-wallaby was originally thought to be more widespread, but since genetic testing was introduced, five more distinct wallaby species were discovered, and are only distinguishable by the size and shape of their chromosomes.
