The Perth Mint and Australia Post are pleased to celebrate the auspicious Year of the Dragon with a stunning Stamp and Coin Cover.
In Chinese culture, people born in the Year of the Dragon - 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000 and 2012 - are regarded as confident, enterprising, independent, selfassured, brave and passionate.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs.
This beautiful Stamp and Coin Cover will make a superb gift or collectable.
Design
The coin’s reverse depicts a dragon with a representation of a ‘pearl of wisdom’, the Chinese character for ‘dragon’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Dragon’. The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark is also featured on the reverse.
The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2012 year-date and monetary denomination are shown on the coin’s obverse.
The stamps depict a stylised dragon image and the Chinese character for dragon.
Official Australia Post Stamps
Affixed to the envelope are two official Australia Post 60c and $1.80 stamps. The stamps are postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope includes Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity and official number.
