Theme Background:

Her Majesty ascended the throne on 6 February 1952 and was crowned Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1953 at the age of 27. Her Majesty The Queen has been witness to many astonishing changes that have taken place in the world, from the Second World War to the landing on the moon. During the sixty years of her reign she has also seen radical developments in the areas of medicine, transport and technology.
In addition, Her Majesty has faced many personal challenges with courage, strength and dignity - qualities for which she has become renowned.

Design:

The 2oz gold coin’s reverse features the original Mary Gillick uncrowned effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and a sparkling diamond set against a background of sunrays. The inscription DIAMOND JUBILEE and the dates 1952 - 2012 are also incorporated into the design.
The coin’s obverses depict the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.
