Theme Background:

The Games of the XXX Olympiad will be held in London, England, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. London will become the first city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times, having previously done so in 1908 and in 1948.

The competition schedule for the London Olympic Games includes 26 different summer sports with a total of 38 disciplines (a branch of an Olympic sport comprising one or more events). Approximately 10,500 athletes are expected to participate in the Games, including an Australian team of about 400.

The motto for the London Olympic Games is Live as one. The stamp design features several famous icons and landmarks of the great metropolis of London.

This stunning stamp and coin cover is issued in conjunction with Australia Post and makes the perfect memento of the games or gift.


This coin’s reverse features the Australian Olympic Team’s mascot, the boxing kangaroo, the Australian Olympic Team official logo, the inscriptions OLYMPIC SPIRIT and 2012 AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC TEAM.

The coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2012 year-date and monetary denomination.

Presented by Australia Post and the Perth Mint, the $1 coin is struck in aluminium bronze and issued as Australian legal tender.
