Theme Background:
Wildlife in Need Series
Focusing on five rare and endangered wild animals, this beautiful Wildlife in Need series showcases these amazing creatures in need of our care. This coin program aims to raise $49,750 charity funds for WWF-Australia.
Giant Panda
The 1st release in the Wildlife in Need series is the Giant Panda. The Giant Panda is a peaceful, bamboo-eating member of the bear family native to China. It is easily recognized by the large, distinctive black patches around the eyes, over the ears, and across its round body. Known for its solitary nature, the Giant Panda has an acute sense of smell and can grow up to five feet in height. They have steadily lost their forest habitat to China’s expanding human population. These striking animals are now confined to fragmented forest patches high in the mountains of south western China.
