The Perth Mint and Australia Post mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy with a stunning commemorative Stamp and Coin Cover.

On 1 March 1901, exacally two months after the Federation of Australia, responsibility for the former colonies' naval forces passed to the new Commonwealth Government , setting in train developments resulting in the emergence of the Royal Australian Navy 1911.

Design

Struck by The Perth Mint in aluminium bronze, the coin's reverse depicts the offical Navy badge incorporating the St Edwards (Queens) Crown and the inscription ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY 100 YEARS 1911-2011.

Issued as Australian legal tender under the Currency Act 1965, the coin's obverse portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2011 year-date.

Official Commemorative Stamps

Affixed to the envelope are two official Australia Post stamps. The first 60c stamp features HMAS Australia, which was the Royal Australian Navy's first flagship. The second 60c stamp features HMAS Sydney V, representing the strength of the Australian Navy's current fleet. The Stamps are postmarked for the first day of issue and feature Australia Post's Seal of Authenticity and official number.
