Theme Background:
On 1 March 1901, two months after the Federation of Australia, responsibility for the former colonies’ naval forces passed to the new Commonwealth Government, which would see the emergence of the Royal Australian Navy on 10 July 1911. This spectacular release celebrates 100 years of the Royal Australian Navy.
The coin’s reverse design comprises images representing sailors from the early days of the Royal Australian Navy; HMAS Yarra, the River Class Torpedo Boat Destroyer commissioned in 1910; and the modern warship HMAS Anzac, the third Royal Australian Navy ship to carry the legendary name.
