Theme Background: This solitary sea turtle can be found in the coral reefs of northern Australia. Listed as endangered, the Hawksbill Turtle matures at thiry years of age and has a lifespan of up to fifty years. An adult Hawksbill can grow up to one metre in length.

Design: The reverse design depicts a Hawksbill Turtle in colour and includes The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark. Incorporated into the design are the inscriptions AUSTRALIAN SEA LIFE II - THE REEF and HAWKSBILL TURTLE. The coin's obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2011 year-date.
