Focusing on five intelligent working dog breeds, this exciting Working Dogs series portrays these unpaid, unsung heroes of the Australian labour force – our four-legged, big-hearted workers. Coin Club Australia is aiming to raise a sum of $15,000 as charity funds for RSPCA Australia through the Working Dogs coin program.  

Labrador Retriever - Guide Dog:
The first release in the Working Dogs series is Labrador Retriever – Guide Dog. A gentle, devoted and playful breed, the Labrador Retriever’s great temperament is matched by initiative, concentration and a strong desire to please. Ideally suited to a number of working roles, it is best-known as an assistance dog providing invaluable mobility and independence to visually-impaired people.  In fact, Labrador Retrievers make up the majority of working guides in many regions of the world.

Design

The coin’s reverse portrays a Labrador Retriever and a puppy in colour. The design includes the profile of a Labrador Retriever working as a guide dog. As well as decorative pattern of paw prints, the coin’s reverse also includes the inscription ‘WORKING DOGS’ and ‘LABRADOR RETRIEVER – GUIDE DOG’. The coin’s obverse depicts the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2010 year-date.
