Theme Background:
Marking the 150th anniversary of the brave attempt by the 1860 Burke & Wills Expedition to cross the continent from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria, this new PNC is headlined by the one-year-only Burke & Wills 20c BU coin – struck by the Royal Australian Mint. Portraying the departure of the party from Royal Park in Melbourne in August 1860, and not issued for circulation, this low mintage Australian legal tender type is set within a brilliantly illustrated card. Individually numbered from the tiny limited edition of 5,000, each card is housed in an eye-catching First Day Cover adorned with FOUR official Australia Post Burke & Wills stamps bearing the postmark of Parkville – the suburb in which Royal Park is found.
An outstanding presentation, there is no doubt that demand for the 2010 20c Burke & Wills PNC will be huge – as with all strictly limited edition PNCs. Every PNC distinguished by a pre-determined limited edition has been devastated by demand, with a leap in market value the inevitable consequence. Given that the 2007 Ashes PNC (edition 8,000; issued at A$19.95) and 2005 World Heritage PNC (edition 30,000; issued at A$39.60) are now valued at A$195 and A$150 respectively, the chance to secure this exclusive PNC at this price must not be ignored.
